DPM: Umno could have ruled on its own before independence

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 — Umno was strong enough to have formed the government on its own before the country’s independence, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

The Umno deputy president said his party could have succeeded in doing so, but stressed that it had “willingly” agreed to work with other races to achieve a “shared” goal.

“Umno is most definitely not racist. We could have built a government on our own, but we decided to share,” Muhyiddin (picture) said in reply to questions from reporters here, adding that during the first elections Umno won the majority of the votes.

“People, some media do not realise that there are some parties out there who are a hundred times more racist than us,” said the deputy prime minister.

Muhyiddin echoed party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s remarks, who said today that Umno was not racist and that it was responsible for Malaysia’s “social stability.”

The prime minister said the Malay party had willingly co-operated with component Barisan Nasional parties MCA and MIC for a “bigger purpose” back in the 1950s to form a government and gain independence.

Najib has repeatedly pleaded with Umno delegates to adopt a more moderate approach, but his pleas appear to have gone unheeded.

Party conservatives have already been roused over the past two days by speeches demonising Pakatan Rakyat as anti-Malay, anti-Islam, “agents of Christianisation”, “bapok” (transvestites), “bangsat” (bastards) and “pondan” (effeminate).

Umno goes into what is likely to be its last general assembly before a general election expected early next year.

Najib is said to need a marked improvement from the last polls to retain his position and only a return of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) customary two-thirds majority of Parliament can guarantee he remains in office.

BN ceded 82 federal seats and five state governments to the opposition in the landmark March 2008 general election.

So now they don't need the rest...So what is MCA and MIC going to do about it? Probably nothing..

Perkasa to reject new laws if too unlike ISA

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 – Perkasa will reject the new anti-terrorism laws the prime minister has proposed if they do not keep to the “preventive spirit” of the recently scrapped Internal Security Act (ISA).

Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali (picture) said it was necessary to preserve or even improve upon the preventive aspects of the ISA to ensure security forces have a viable “instrument” with which to quickly stamp out subversive activities and keep the nation safe.

The Malay rights leader cited alleged insults to Islam and increasing criticism of Article 153, which accords a special position to Bumiputeras, as examples of activities that could threaten the stability and safety of the people.

“We know who did it but it’s difficult to prove in court. But security (forces) know who is responsible,” he told reporters here after Perkasa concluded an emergency meeting to discuss the ISA’s repeal.

Ibrahim stressed that there should be no compromises when formulating the new laws as Malaysia’s development and progress hinged entirely on its security, adding that the ISA was one of the most effective tools to ensure the nation’s peace.

He urged the government to discuss the new laws with stakeholders, especially the police, before deciding on the contents of the proposed anti-terrorism laws.

“I hope the government doesn’t bend to political sentiment from any party when creating these new laws... What’s key is that the people should decide on their own security. This is the people’s right,” he said.

Perkasa will meet with Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein soon to discuss the details of the new laws, Ibrahim added.

On Thursday night, the prime minister announced that the repeal of the ISA and the three Emergency Declarations when both the Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat have their next sitting.

Datuk Seri Najib Razak said new laws will be enacted to protect the peace, harmony and security of the country.

He also announced that the government will do away with annual printing and publishing permits with permits that can be cancelled if regulations are flouted.

Ibrahim also said today that he fully supported the repeal of the Emergency Declarations as there were no longer relevant and called for the abolishment of the Universities and Universities Colleges Act (UUCA), the Official Secrets Act (OSA) and the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA).

He added that Perkasa needed more time to study the proposed amendments to the Police Act before it could make its stand known.

 Seriously, Ibrahim Ali? Seriously?

"The Malay rights leader cited alleged insults to Islam and increasing criticism of Article 153, which accords a special position to Bumiputeras, as examples of activities that could threaten the stability and safety of the people." How is this threaten the stability and safery of the people? Tell me, man, really, tell me....

I seriously think you are not really thinking with your brain man. You know what, you just gotta take a step back, look at it from the point of view of a human being, and see what did came out from your mouth. Not as a Moslem, not as a Malay, just look at it from the human being point of view. After all, we are all just human if we striped off everything else that divide us. I am sad for you, and for Malaysia to have someone like you. It's a disgrace to the country, not that it is already disgraceful to begin with. The country will soon be no more because of people like you

CM: No race required on ‘golden child’ form

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Government has released the Penang Golden Child Programme application form with no “race” category.

“This is the first form that doesn’t require you to state your race. From the state’s point of view, it is sufficient that you are a Malaysian citizen. We are all ‘anak Malaysia’,” said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, adding that the state felt the move was in line with the spirit of the coming Malaysia Day on Sept 16.

However, Lim added that those applying for the state’s Senior Citizen Appreciation Programme would still need to fill out a form with the race category.

“When we printed forms for the Senior Citizen Appreciation Programme, we used the standard format. For the purpose of continuity, the future forms will be the same, but for new state-driven initiatives, there is a great likelihood there will be no ‘race’ category,” he said.

Lim also said for programmes that involved both state and federal agencies, the ‘race’ column would be retained.

Lim was speaking to reporters after attending a Hari Raya open house at the Penang Development Corporation on Persiaran Mahsuri, Bayan Baru, yesterday.

A good move from Penang. We don't need to know whether you are Malays, Chinese, Indians or lain-lain. So long you are a Malaysian it is sufficient. Isn't that how it is supposed to be? What differences does it make if I am a Chinese applying for, say.. a banking account. My Malay friend opens the same account . Do we get different interest rate or something? It should be the same, so long you are Malaysian, you have your MyKad. I don't think there is a difference, whichever race I belong to...Or does it really has a difference? A point to ponder.

Cops told to learn languages

KUALA LUMPUR: Police personnel have been urged to learn two additional languages besides Bahasa Malaysia to improve its public perception of the force.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said effective communication skills were crucial in efforts to enhance the force's image and credibility.

“I wish to encourage every member of the force to master at least two languages besides the national language,” he said in his speech at the PDRM College in Cheras here yesterday.

Muhyiddin said police needed to equip themselves with communication skills and knowledge as their role went beyond maintaining peace in the country.

Muhyiddin said the Government had identified public perception as a major issue which had to be handled effectively by the force.

“The force, like that in any other country, is exposed to risks of perception,” he said.

“It is undeniable that the force's main challenge is to change its public perception, especially on issues of corruption and brutality towards detainees,” he said, adding that the Government increased its allocation for the force from RM157.6mil to RM267.6mil this year for it to conduct more comprehensive training programmes.

Muhyiddin said that although a government survey in May showed that 55% of the public was satisfied with the police's performance, more could be done to improve perception.

In welcoming the suggestion, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar said the force would enhance training courses by incorporating the teaching of additional languages.

Later, Muhyiddin said providing quality childhood education was crucial in curbing social problems.

Launching the Early Childhood Care and Education Council, he said that an extra 1,500 kindergartens and pre-schools were set up last year for 700,000 children aged four and five.

This, he added, had improved from 2009 when 54,569 children could not attend pre-school as such facilities were not available.

Muhyiddin also said that last year, RM10.6mil was spent so that 21,179 children from low-income families could attend private pre-schools, adding that increasing the number of such centres was one of the entry point projects (EPP) under the National Key Economic Area.

You got that right Mr.DPM. You gotta go on the street to hear how some of our law enforcer speaks English. I so happen, came across this situation. The poor fella, ok now i am not sure who is poorer, the cop or the lost tourist. Anyway, both of them are poor and I feel ashamed. Here's the situation.

A tourist with his wife is lost, they are looking for Hard Rock Cafe. So the tourist saw 2 policeman doing their rounds. (i gotta admit, they really do their job by doing their round, at least you feel safer). So the man asked one of the policeman, "Hello, good day to you. Can I know how do I get to this place, Hard Rock Cafe?", while pointing to the location in a mini map. The policeman, I am sure he is trying to be helpful and genuinely wanted to help. So this is what I heard he said, "You use walk straight, walk straight only. After that, you saw trapik light, you go in left. After that, use walk straight only. After that, 10 min, you can see Hard Rock"

It's not really that bad, hey at least he can tell out the direction but seriously do we really want this kind of message delivery method? Now if you read that sentence in BM (Malay Language) it does make some sense.

So yeah, at least get your English language command up to par first before you start other language.

Upsetting the ecological balance

What Mahfuz Omar said, reported by The Malaysian Insider (read below), is very interesting. In time, what he said will certainly happen. The implications, however, will be farther reaching than how Mahfuz has explained.

The bottom line is you can’t upset the ecological balance without seeing something happen. When you clear the forests, remove the mangrove trees, or terrace the hill slopes, something always happens. And it is normally bad rather than good.

Look at Britain today. In the 1960s and 1970s, it was an influx of Asian immigrants. Of late, it is an influx of Eastern Europeans. Britain is no longer the Britain we once knew or the Britain I was born in. It has transformed so much that I really don’t know whether to call it good or bad.

For one, honesty has gone out the window. In the old days, you could put your newspapers and a box outside your shop and customers would take the newspaper and put the payment in the box. Today, they would take the box of coins.

Rental and property prices in ‘immigrant’ neighbourhoods are low. The crime rate is high. And the cost of car insurance is higher if you live in such neighbourhoods because the danger of theft or vandalism is higher.

Unemployment is up and the standard of living has declined. More people are on welfare and in time Britain is going to face bankruptcy because of the ‘freeloaders’ it has to support. The NHS (national health service) has practically no more money. And they have had to increase fees for universities.

The long and short of it: Britain’s 50-year old very lax immigration policy is finally taking its toll on the one-time Empire where the sun never sets. The sun is certainly setting very fast on Britannia that no longer rules the waves.

Malaya, too, in 1850, had a very lax immigration policy. In 1920, the British Colonial Government realised that if they allowed this to continue it would upset the ‘ecological balance’ and Malaya would erupt into chaos. So, in 1920, the British stopped bringing in Indians and Chinese.

The British realised very early that the country could support only a certain number of immigrants before all hell breaks loose. In their wisdom, the British said, ‘Enough!’ and thus ended the immigration policy.

The Indians and Chinese we have in Malaysia today are descendants of the immigrants of the 1850 to 1920 era. In short, today’s Indians and Chinese are Malaysian-born, which means they are Malaysians and not immigrants. That is why these ‘immigrants’ are loyal to Malaysia and not to India or China, which is very important (and if I have to explain this statement then you are brain dead).

Now, the government has reversed what the British did. We are now ‘importing’ foreigners at a higher level than what the British did from 1850 to 1920. We may think that we are importing ‘fellow Muslims’. Well, that’s what Britain thought as well when they allowed the ‘Christian’ Eastern Europeans into Britain in droves.

But these Christian Eastern Europeans have a different culture and set of values. And that is the problem. The ‘Muslim’ immigrants coming into Malaysia also have a different culture and set of values. And, in time, Malaysia is going to face the problem that Britain is facing today.

What Mahfuz said is partly true. But the problem is not going to be confined to just their rejection of the Monarchy. The implication is farther than that.

We must remember, these immigrants are not facing political, ethnic, or religious persecution in their fatherland -- like those who went to America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England, etc., around the Second World War. In those days, they had to emigrate or die. So they owed their adopted country their lives. And because of that they owed their adopted country their loyalty.

But the new (post-Merdeka) immigrants into Malaysia do not face death in their country. They do not owe Malaysia their lives. They are merely ‘economic refugees’. It’s all about money. Their loyalty is to money, not to Malaysia.

Those are the types of people we are giving ‘instant citizenship’ to. And in time we shall realise the folly of this immigration policy.

They have no memories of the British Colonial era. They have no memories of the Japanese occupation. They have no memories of Merdeka. They have no memories of the Emergency. They have no memories of the creation of Malaysia. They have no memories of the Konfrontasi with Indonesia. They have no memories of May 13. They have no memories of anything at all that Malaysians hold dear. They are here only for the money.

So where do these people’s loyalty lie? Certainly not where our loyalties lie because they do not share our culture and value system. They are only loyal to the Ringgit and as long as the Ringgit is there they will become ‘true Malaysians’. However, once the Ringgit is no longer there, they would not care two hoots about Malaysia.

Learn from Britain’s mistake. Britain, which was once Malaysia’s Colonial master, is beginning to pay a heavy price for being too lax in its immigration policy. It took 50 years but it is finally taking its toll.

In time, Malaysia too is going to pay for this mistake. By then, however, just like in Britain today, it will be too late.

Sure, this new immigration policy is meant to help Barisan Nasional in the next general election. The ‘instant citizens’ are going to vote for BN.

That is the short-term gain, of course. But for the benefit of short-term gain, Malaysia is going to suffer in the long term.

Pakatan says foreign voters will bring down monarchy

(The Malaysian Insider) - Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lawmakers demanded today an emergency sitting of Parliament over claims that 1,600 foreigners had been given citizenship and voting rights, claiming that if left unchecked it would erode Malaysia’s constitutional monarchy.

PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar told reporters today that the permanent residents who were being given “express” citizenship and voting rights “would not appreciate our royalty as we do.”

DAP publicity secretary Tony Pua said the “campaign by Barisan Nasional (BN) and the authorities to turn all permanent residents into citizens, if not monitored, will cause the peninsula to be like Sabah.”

“There, permanent residents who have become citizens outnumber actual locals,” the Petaling Jaya Utara MP said, referring to the claim that BN had given votes to foreigners in the east Malaysian state in the 1990s to reclaim power in the 1999 state election.

“This will cause the fall of our monarchy. They don’t appreciate our constitutional monarchy,” Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz said.

PR handed a memorandum demanding the emergency sitting to be held within seven days to Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz today, who received the demand on behalf of the prime minister.

The minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said he would hand over the letter to Datuk Seri Najib Razak when breaking fast today and “after discussing with him, maybe we can respond.”

The minister in charge of Parliament said that there was no problem for Parliament to meet during the fasting month as that had been the practice in the early 2000s, when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was prime minister.

Although Nazri refused to comment on PR’s claims, he said that complaints over fraudulent voters should be brought to the Election Commission to be investigated.

“I don’t think it can happen. To vote, you need a blue identity card,” he said, referring to the document that proves citizenship.

PR had also claimed that 1,108 permanent residents in the Klang Valley were given the status of full citizens on August 2 alone, and ridiculed the notion that over 1,000 identity cards were issued within a day.

PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub also showed documents claiming that between 1.06pm and 2.30pm on August 2, three voters had their status changed from permanent residents to citizens “in the blink of an eye.”

“This was information downloaded from the NRD website itself and we have a total of 1,597 cases across the country,” the Kubang Kerian MP had said.

Somehow this makes sense. At least we are born here, we have our loyalty to the country. Those that the govt granted citizenship on the fly, they only care about money. I don't blame them, they are here to earn a living to support the poor at home. Once the land has no more gold, you think they will continue to stay? They will be the first few to get a one way ticket out of the country heading to the next piece of land that has gold. Whereas we, the true Malaysian (despite the fact that we are labeled as immigrants), we will stay on, fighting until the last breath.

Well, that was last time, now, I am not sure anymore. Seems like no point to fight for a country that will soon no longer exist.

Guilty until proven innocent vs Innocent until proven guilty

Here is an interesting article that RPK wrote in Malaysia-today. In all normal circustances, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That's how things are. But sadly and don't know how, in Malaysia it is the other way around, you are always guilty, until you proof that you are innocent. It is a rule or game plan set by those who walk the corridor of power. They say Anwar is guilty of sodomizing that asshole-boy, they said he is guilty. And now the fight is on to proof he (Awnar) is innocent. In other normal country, it should be the person who is pressing charges, in this case our Government, to proof that Anwar did sodomized the asshole-boy but no, here once alleged, then you need to proof you are innocent. Only possible in Malaysia where everyone is guilty unless proven innocent. read on

Raja Petra Kamarudin

The Umno Bloggers are bitching, moaning, groaning, grumbling and complaining. They accuse me of lying (fitnah) and spinning (propaganda). They call me ‘The King of Spin’ and they say that Malaysia Today is the biggest spin-doctor for Pakatan Rakyat. And these Ummo Blogs target not only me but also my wife and children for character assassination.

Well, first of all, I am honoured that the Umno Bloggers regard me Enemy Number One. It is not easy to become Enemy Number One. A lot of hard work needs to be put into becoming number one. After all, there are millions of Blogs out there in cyber-world competing for number one.

Secondly, Malaysia Today is not ‘the biggest spin-doctor for Pakatan Rakyat’. If Malaysia Today serves Pakatan Rakyat then how come there are many within Pakatan Rakyat who are angry with me and hate me? In fact, I know people from Pakatan Rakyat who even allege that I work for Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.

Thirdly, I am pleased that BOTH Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat are pissed with me big time. It is not easy to get both sides of the political divide to hate you. Getting one side to hate you and the other side to love you is easy. Anyone can do that. But to get BOTH sides to hate you is a task not many Malaysians can achieve.

Fourthly, and the most important point of all, what you are getting is merely a taste of your own medicine. You see, in Malaysia, you are guilty until and unless proven innocent. That is how the government, Barisan Nasional and Umno play the game. They declare you guilty and then you need to prove your innocence. So what I am applying is merely the rules as laid down by those who walk in the corridors of power.

Take the Internal Security Act (or Emergency Ordinance) as an example. You are detained under the ISA or EO based on ‘the belief that you are a threat to national security and public order’. In other words, there is no evidence. If there were evidence then you would be arrested and charged in court. However, since it is only a ‘belief’ and there is no evidence, they detain you without trial under one of these emergency laws -- the ISA or EO.

‘Belief’ translates to the absence of evidence. That is why religion is a belief -- because of the absence of evidence. If there were evidence then it would be a science and not a belief. And you believe based on faith. When they can’t produce the evidence they will tell you that the belief is based on faith.

So you believe that I am a threat to national security and public order and then detain me without trial under the ISA or EO. Just because you believe that I am a threat to national security and public order, you regard it as fact.

If I were to tell a Muslim that I believe that Jesus Christ died and rose after three days and went to heaven, would a Muslim believe me? Why not? This is my belief so why can’t a Muslim accept this as fact and not dispute my belief? If you can believe that I am a threat to national security and public order, and if your belief is regarded as fact, then my belief about Jesus Christ should also be treated as fact and not be disputed.

When it suits them, a belief becomes fact, and when it does not, a belief becomes a lie. That is how these people think.

During your first 60 days of detention without trial, your interrogators will tell you what they believe you have done -- or plan to do (in the event you have not done it yet but are planning to do so). You then have to convince them that this is wrong and that you never did such a thing or plan to do what they allege you are planning to do.

In short, you are guilty until and unless you can convince the government of your innocence.

If you fail to convince the government of your innocence then you are further detained for an indefinite period of time. Only if you can convince the government of your innocence are you free to go home.

This is how it works.

Anwar Ibrahim is guilty of all sorts of sexual misconduct. Now he needs to prove that he is innocent.

The six members of PSM (EO6) were also guilty of being Communists. Now they have to prove they are innocent.

I was treated as guilty of the ‘crime’ of slandering Islam, Prophet Muhammad, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Khairy Jamaluddin, Najib Tun Razak, Rosmah Mansor, the IGP, the AG, PDRM, MACC, Barisan Nasional, Umno, and every man and his dog in Malaysia.

I then had to prove my innocence in two trials and two detentions without trial. (Plus there are more than 20 new police reports made against me since 2009 -- which the government is waiting to use against me if I ever happen to go back to Malaysia).

So you see how it works? You are guilty. Then you need to prove your innocence.

You may say I was at least brought to court and was allowed to prove my innocence in court. But that is just the thing. That is not how it is supposed to work. I do not need to prove my innocence. The government needs to prove my guilt. But under what I was charged, ‘the truth of the matter is not material to the charge’. This simply means even if I told the truth I would still be pronounced guilty and would be sent to jail.

So what are these Umno people screaming about? They ask me to come back to Malaysia and prove my innocence. Has the Malaysian education system deteriorated that badly? Why so bodoh?

First, I need not prove anything -- the government needs to prove my guilt. Second, even if I can prove my innocence I still go to jail under those charges I face.

Okay, the Ummno Bloggers are upset that we are ‘lying’ about Rosmah. Are we lying? No! We are merely pronouncing Rosmah guilty and now she must prove her innocence. This is how it works in Malaysia.

You mean Rosmah does not have a collection of many colours of Birkin bags that cost USD120,000 each? Her collection of Birkin bags alone costs millions of Ringgit.

Now, we got the pictures of her Birkin bags from the mainstream newspapers. These are Umno-owned and/or government-controlled newspapers. We did not doctor those pictures. We just lifted them from newspapers that the government says would never lie.

We say that Rosmah swindled the taxpayers’ money to splurge on millions of Ringgit worth of handbags. Guilty! Guilty! Guilty! Now prove your innocence.

So Rosmah did not buy these Birkin bags? So Rosmah did not swindle the taxpayers’ money? So it was Danny Tan of Berjaya who bought all these many handbags as presents for Rosmah? Well, tell us. Prove your innocence. And until you can prove your innocence you are guilty.

And the same goes for all those other issues as well -- the RM24 million diamond ring included. You are guilty, guilty, guilty! Now prove your innocence. Denying it is not enough. Prove you did not buy that ring and that Jho Low was the one who bought it for you. This is how it works in Malaysia.

Most people believe that Najib and/or Rosmah are directly or indirectly involved in the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu. So Najib and/or Rosmah are guilty. Now they need to prove their innocence. But they refuse to prove their innocence. Why?

P.I. Balasubramaniam has made some serious allegations in his Statutory Declaration. He even alleged that he was forced to sign a second SD to contradict his first SD and he has further alleged that Najib’s brother and Rosmah’s ‘toyboy’, Deepak Jaikishan, were the ones who forced him to sign the second SD.

So Najib and Rosmah are guilty, guilty, guilty! But why does the government refuse to conduct an investigation into this allegation and prove that Bala was lying? Why ignore the allegation and continue to allow people to think that Najib and Rosmah are guilty?

So you see, you decided the rules, not we. And the rule is - you are guilty until proven innocent. We too have alleged that you are guilty of all sorts of things, murder included. Now prove your innocence. And if you fail to prove your innocence, then most Malaysians who will be voting in the next general election are going to say you are guilty because you failed to prove your innocence -- as how the system works in Malaysia .

Do you remember how Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was brought down? He was brought down on the basis that he and his son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin -- in collaboration with the boys in ‘Tingkat 4’ and Kalimullah -- were guilty of all sorts of things. On that basis Pak Lah was attacked and kicked out.

Did Najib, Rosmah, Umno or any of the Umno Bloggers protest this? Pak Lah was pronounced guilty and when he could not prove his innocence he was punished. Even Dr Mahathir said Pak Lah and Khairy were guilty in his talks all over Malaysia.

In fact, the Umno Bloggers were the ones most enthusiastic and overzealous in attacking Pak Lah. The Umno Bloggers were more vicious towards Pak Lah than even the opposition Bloggers.

So, when it came to Pak Lah, the Umno Bloggers took the lead in attacking Pak Lah and pronounced him guilty, guilty, guilty. And when Pak Lah could not prove his innocence he was ousted and replaced with Najib.

Come on lah! Stop bitching, moaning, groaning, grumbling and complaining! If you can't stand the bruises then don’t start a fight. Stand clear. When you fight you have to get hurt. Umno Bloggers are like school kids. When they lose a fight they go crying to the teacher to complain.

We have accepted your rules of guilty until proven innocent. That is what you use against us. But when we prove better at this game than you, you start crying like babies.

Umno people are losers. They want to blindfold us and tie our hands before they fight us. And when we hit back and hurt them they cry. And they got the gall to say that I don’t have balls because I don’t dare come back to Malaysia to prove my innocence.

Brader. This is not about me having to prove my innocence. This is about ABU (‘anything but Umno’ or ‘asal bukan Umno’). This is about kicking Umno out come the next general election. Anything but Umno!

So let the game begin! Prove your innocence, and until and unless you can, then you are guilty. This is our message to the voters and we will make the voters understand that the next GE is about ABU -- anything but Umno or asal bukan Umno.

Two million licences not valid

PUTRAJAYA: As many as 2.2 million out of 11.8 million driving licence holders are inactive or have not renewed their licence, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) received feedback from the motorists that they had difficulty in remembering the expiry date of their licences.

“Even those who had imbedded their driving licences particulars in their MyKad, claimed that they were unable to see their particulars to renew them,” he said.

Kong added that summons would be issued to those caught driving without valid licences, and reminded them that they were not covered by insurance.

“Those who failed to renew their licences for a three year period would have to undergo the driving competency test before they are allowed to renew them,” he said.

Kong added there was one case of a person driving without realising that his driving licence expired three years ago.

“We had also received numerous appeals from persons who had to undergo the competency part of the driving test but we had to reject them,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

Kong said the new initiative to renew the driving licences based on the person's date of birth was an effort to provide an effective delivery system to the people.

“We believe this will indirectly reduce the number of inactive driving licence holders,” he said.

Kong said the JPJ has been directed to formulate the systems so that the “renewal on birthdays” proposal could be implemented soon.

“This will take some time but I don't want the driving licence holders to rush to the JPJ offices to renew them immediately,” he said, adding that the renewal would be done after the expiry of the driving licences.

To a question, he said the holders of “P” licence would not be affected as it would be based on their date of birth when they get their licence.

Ok, here's a statement before I proceed. I truly believe only competent drivers should be driving on the road. Not half baked ones.

Ok now about licenses. I don't know what's the logic of paying RM30 a year for a license. Perhaps it is revenue for the Road Transport Department. You see, so long people is competent enough to drive on the road with enough experiences, it doesn't really matter whether his license is expired or not. Well that's my opinion only, i am an ignorant asshole, so don't shoot me down. It's not that when your license expires, suddenly all your driving experiences and knowledge just disappear into thin air. Like "Whoosh!" and then "Gosh, I don't know how to drive anymore" or "I don't know whether I should stop to let the car on the right go first when I approach the roundabout" or "Oh I can't remember the left most pedal is clutch and I need to depress it to shift gears". C'mon, are we that dumb?

On the other hand, people who never drove before, keeps renewing their licenses for the past 10 years and now suddenly decides, it is time for me to drive on the road. Geesh...either they drive like moron, like driving in the middle of 2 lanes, coz he/she can't decide whether it should be left or right. Or they drive like they are strolling in the park, enjoying the breeze during rush hour.

Anyway, why can't we just take a test then issue it once. And forever hold the license. Then no need renew. You know it is not easy for people to go renew their licenses. But thank God, we have online services like MyEG. At least we can apply online. But too bad, can't update my handsome photo haha.

Then how do we filter out those incompetent drivers? I don't know, maybe those who are involve in accident or flaunt the traffic rules, say 3 times a year, will be subjected for an evaluation. If fails, he/she is required to attend a refresher course. If pass, perhaps it is just bad luck. You know how Malaysian drivers are right? You drive with full attention, follow all the traffic rules, keep your distance but still you find some moron bangs into your car from behind or the stupid biker graze your door and side mirror or they simply just bang you from the side, like they are doing stunt or something.

Above are just my opinion. Perhaps I cannot see the importance of the driver's license. So in the mean time, let's check your driver's license to see whether it is still valid :) Just in case, you know, when it expires so will your driving experience and knowledge :P
